Kyphosis of the Spine

Human spine is made of several normal curves if seen from side. These help to absorb the body weight. This spinal cord is divided into four segments i.e cervical spine, thoracic spine, lumbar spine and sacral spine. Among them thoracic spine consists of outward curvatures which contains 12 nerves. This thoracic curvature is medically termed as Kyphosis of Spine. It helps the body to bend forward. It is needless to say that spinal kyphosis is a spinal deformity which is caused due to several reasons.

Causes of Kyphosis of the Spine:

The middle portion of vertebrae is bent out of actual position. The various causes are responsible for this kind of spinal deformity. The list is mentioned below.

  • Osteoporosis
  • Congenital Cause
  • Neuromuscular Problem
  • Nutritional Deficiency
  • Scheuermanns Disease
  • Traumatic Reason
  • Degenerative Cause
  • Postural Problem
  • Iatrogenic Related

Treatments of Kyphosis:

The treatments of kyphosis of spine depend on the severity of the spinal curve. It doesnt treat normally if the patients have other additional problems like back pain and any other underlying diseases. Kyphosis of spine in children is not required strict treatment procedures because the curve of spinal cord can be vanished by maturing the age. However, bracing is sufficient to cure kyphosis at kid age instead of surgery. But sometime it requires surgical procedure when it goes very severe to rectify the curvature of spinal cord.

Prevention is Better Than Cure:

If the patients come to physician to treat kyphosis and it is revealed that patient has postural kyphosis, it can be prevented by maintaining proper postures. Like

  • Avoid Slumping
  • Sit Upright
  • Dont carry heavy weight
  • Do regular exercise

So be aware not to do this kind of life lead basically children should be encouraged to maintain these above mentioned ways.
